Kapha I Cycle 6:00 am – 10:00 am
Light breakfast, follow task list, production.
All movement slows down. If you sleep past 7:00 am it actually makes it harder to get up. Rising by 7:00 am you have more energy and less grogginess when you awaken.
Pitta I Cycle 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Strategize, complete bulk of challenging work, big lunch.
Metabolism increases. Our metabolism is at its highest at 12:00 noon. This is the time it’s considered you should eat your largest meal, take your vitamins etc. It’s also the time to really focus and do thinking on projects.
Vata I Cycle 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Create, make task list for next morning, exercise.
This is a time for increased activity. The evening meal should be lighter than the lunch meal. Our mental activity is stimulated and this is the best time for communication. Also recommended is to use the sunset time for prayer and/or meditation.
Kapha II Cycle 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Light dinner, be with family, relax.
Our activity slows down and if you pay attention to your body this is the time it begins to prepare for evening sleep. If you don’t go to bed before 10:30 or 11:00 you probably will be up for several more hours because metabolism increases again. This is also a time to set up regular ritual so your body and mind knows your preparing it for sleep. This can be a warm bath, writing down your plan for the next day and/or writing in your gratitude journal.
Pitta II Cycle 10:00 pm- 2:00 am
Sleep, processing food & thoughts from the day.
This should be a time for deep sleep with active dreams. If you happen to stay up you’ll notice the desire to eat and going to bed on a full stomach negatively affects the sleep cycle.
Vata Cycle 2:00 am – 6:00 am
Dream, wake, elimination, meditation, exercise.
Waking up by 6:00 am is a great time to pray, meditate and enjoy the rising sun and the new energy of the day. Also, this is a wonderful time to set up a morning ritual for 15-30 minutes and do some stretching, yoga, prayer and a light meal with tea or coffee.
